How the calculation works
Pace is time divided by distance. Cover 10 km in 50 minutes and your pace is 50 divided by 10, which is 5:00 per km. Turn that around and finish time is pace times distance, so holding 5:00 /km over a half marathon of 21.0975 km predicts about 1:45:29. Distance is time divided by pace, which answers questions like how far you get in 40 minutes at a steady 5:30 /km. The calculator applies all three relationships and converts between metric and imperial with the exact factor of 1.609344 kilometres per mile, so switching units never changes an answer. Pace, speed and the unit helper
Runners on a treadmill or a bike computer think in speed rather than pace. As a quick reference, 10 kph is 6:00 /km and 12 kph is 5:00 /km. The helper below converts freely between min/km, min/mile, kph and mph, so you can move between the way a coach talks and the way a treadmill display reads.

How do I calculate my running pace?
Divide your total time by the distance you ran. For example, 25 minutes over 5 km is 5:00 min/km. The calculator does this for you and also shows the equivalent min/mile pace and the speed in kph and mph.
How do I convert min/km to min/mile?
Multiply the min/km pace by 1.609344. So 5:00 min/km is about 8:03 min/mile. The unit helper further down this page converts pace and speed in every direction.
What is a good running pace?
It depends on your fitness and the distance. Pace that feels easy over 5 km is not sustainable over a marathon, which is why every pace chart on this site is built for one distance only. Use the charts to see what each finish time actually requires.
Is my data sent to a server?
No. Every calculation runs in your browser with JavaScript, so nothing you type is uploaded or stored anywhere. There is no account and no backend to send it to.
Can I calculate distance rather than pace or time?
Yes. Switch the solve-for control to distance, then enter a time and a pace to see how far that combination takes you. All three directions use the same arithmetic: pace equals time divided by distance.
